1 John 1:1-4
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life - that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us - what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may have fellowship along with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

What was going on during the time

Cessationists

Jesus was not God... just a good guy. Or, that he was a spirit... not human.

Agnostic

Melding beliefs together. They were very philosophical and believed that deliverance from sin comes from knowledge.

Docetism

The idea that sin and humanity cannot be separated. As a human, you are evil.

Big Idea - The Gospel is the only means to have a fulfilled life!

1. Recognizing the nature of God and his Gospel is the first step toward life

The Gospel John was very specific about the Word being Jesus. 1 John talks more about Jesus and the whole plan around Him.

2. Eternal life begins now with the truth of the Gospel.

3. Fulfillment and joy are the result of the Gospel.

Application

Perspective

Life is only truly satisfied when we are connected to God!

Heart

Our hearts must surrender to the truth or they will constantly lead us astray.

Personal Praxis

Do you find fulfillment in the truth of God's character and the work of the Gospel?

Community Praxis

Joy is not only fulfilled between you and God but also with each other. Build relationships!

Go home and think about these things.
