1 John 3:11-15
Dec 14, 2014
1 John 3:11-15 For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another, unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's were righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
Big Idea - Love is the very core of our salvific condition and the work of God.
John 3:16-17 "For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
1. Love should be our position on all interactions with each other.
Matthew 22:37-39 He said to him, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
2. The opposite of Love is murder.
Matthew 5:21-22 "You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment. But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Fool! ' will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, 'You moron! ' will be subject to hellfire.
3. Love is a reflection of our abiding in our salvific condition.
John 13:34-35 "I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
How important is it to you to love like God?
Our damaged heart prevents us from experiencing the fullness of a life of love.
We must let love take hold of our community. Who needs your love today?
Memorize Mark 12:30-31 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. "The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these."
