Four Pillars of a Man's Heart: Part 2

Jan 25, 2015

Big Idea - Manhood is about Gospel-Centered balance.

Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

1. Real men surrender to the wisdom of God and become wise mentors.

Proverbs 4:5-9
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown."

Proverbs 11:12
Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.

Proverbs 6:9-11
How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

Luke 2:52
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

2. Real men surrender their pride to God and become genuine friends.

Genesis 2:18
Then the Lord God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him."

Ne'er-do-well: Ineffectual, worthless, good-for-nothing.

Proverbs 18:1
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him-a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Ephesians 4:1-3
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 5:22-23
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

Application

Perspective
Are you more concerned about being a Gospel-centered man or with what our culture says a man is?

Heart

Is your heart surrendered to God to give up what you know for what he wants you to be?

Personal Praxis

Pray about the areas where you are weakest!

Community Praxis

Will we all surrender to be what God wants for our community?

Ephesians 4:11-13
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
