1 John 4:4-6
You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world. Therefore what they say is from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Anyone who knows God listens to us; anyone who is not from God does not listen to us. From this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.

Big Idea - We do not need to fear what is false, because we know the one who is the truth!

John 8:31-32
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John 14:6
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.

2 Peter 2:19
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.

1. We have overcome all adversity because of the work of our Triune God!

1 John 4:4

Genesis 50:20
You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result - the survival of many people.

2. Teachings that are not from God will be followed by those who don't follow Him.

1 John 4:5

John 8:1-11
But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. At dawn He went to the temple complex again, and all the people were coming to Him. He sat down and began to teach them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center. "Teacher," they said to Him, "this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do You say? " They asked this to trap Him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse Him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with His finger. When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them, "The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her." Then He stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only He was left, with the woman in the center. When Jesus stood up, He said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? " "No one, Lord," she answered. "Neither do I condemn you," said Jesus. "Go, and from now on do not sin anymore."

3. Those who combat the truth of Scripture are not surrendering to the Holy Spirit.

1 John 4:6

What do you think it looks like to look like God?

Application

Perspective

Do you surrender your perspective to the truth of Scripture?

Heart

Our heart controls our response. Feelings must be surrendered constantly!

Personal Praxis

Treat each other like a forgiven adulteress.

Community Praxis

Reflect

Luke 6:27-36
"But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If anyone hits you on the cheek, offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat, don't hold back your shirt either. Give to everyone who asks you, and from one who takes your things, don't ask for them back. Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is gracious to the ungrateful and evil. Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
