1 John 5:1-5
Mar 8, 2015
1 John 5:1-5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him. This is how we know that we love God's children when we love God and obey His commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
Big Idea - The Gospel is the source of love and obedience is a reflection of that love.
1. The Gospel gives us new life and the ability to love every Christian.
1 John 5:1 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.
2. We know that we love others by our obedience to God!
1 John 5:2 1 John 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. John 14:23 Jesus answered, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
3. God's command and order are synonymous with His love!
1 John 5:3
4. Our faith in who Jesus IS, is what enables us to overcome the world and to love.
1 John 5:4-5
Do we love God by a lifestyle of obedience?
Obedience often hurts, but the Gospel is about restoring our heart.
Pray and ask God to reveal your disobedience.
We must fight to love one another, if we are not we are living in disobedience.
